Any rule not covered here will fall under jurisdiction of the
Amateur Softball Association of Pennsylvania.
Classifications
Gold Division
1. ASA classes “B” & “C” or only other association’s classes “C” & “D”
may participate in this division.
2. (2) HRs per inning.
Silver Division
1. ASA class “D” or only other association’s class “E” teams may
participate in the division.
2. (1) HR per inning.
3. Roster may contain no more than 3 players from a competitive class
roster from the previous year.
Bronze Division
1. This division is for teams just starting out or with less than a
.500 winning percentage against teams of a higher classification (ASA “D”).
2. To participate in this division you must submit your roster and be
approved by the sanction classification committee.
3. At any time during the calendar year you can be moved from this
division to a higher class by the classification committee.
4. (1) HR per game. After that will be an out.
Final decisions of what class you play
will be determined by the classification committee.
Rosters
1. The official tournament roster will be your ASA or other sanction
roster with 4 pick-ups from an equal or lower classification team.
Pitching
1. The pitch must have an arc of at least 6 feet from the ground no
more than 10 feet from the ground.
2. The pitch must be delivered the first time the ball passes the
pitcher’s hip.
3. After receiving the ball the pitcher will have 5 seconds to deliver
the pitch.
4. Any underhand motion may be used to deliver the pitch.
5. No pump fake allowed.
Batting
1. An advanced count of 1 ball & 1 strike will be used.
2. There WILL NOT be a courtesy foul.
3. All current ASA Approved 98 or 100 mph bats will be allowed as well
as any bat with an approved BPF rating of 1.20 (ASA 100+) approved by the
other associations will be allowed. The bats must be marked with the 1.20
rating. Remember, The Miken Ultra and Miken
Ultra-II are still not allowed to be used by these other associations either
and not allowed in NASF play either. Bats made specifically for the Senior
Softball Associations are also not allowed as these bats may have a 1.20
rating, but they are designed to achieve optimum flex with a slower bat
speed than required by other softball bats. Most bats are designed to
achieve optimum flex at bat speeds of 95 mph or more, which means the
average senior player never attains optimum performance from their bat. In
designing a bat specifically for senior softball players, they have created
a bat that achieves optimum flex at a lower bat speed. These kind of bats
are not allowed in non-senior league or tournament play for these obvious
reasons.
4. Bats are subject to inspection at anytime when a player enters a
complex. A bat that simply rattles will be allowed if it passes all other
qualifications.
5. The strike zone will be from the batter’s front knee to his back
shoulder if he were standing even with home plate. The zone DOES NOT change
if the batter stands further up or back in the batter’s box.
6. When an over the fence homerun is hit, all runners and the batter
will walk off. No appeal can be made for missed bases.
Base Running
1. There will be NO STEALING.
2. The double base must be used at first base. The runner MUST use the
portion of the base that is in foul territory if there is a play at first.
The fielder MUST use the portion in fair territory. If the runner uses the
wrong base, he will immediately be called “OUT”. If the fielder uses the
wrong portion of the base, the runner will be called. “SAFE”. If there is no
play at first the runner may use either portion of the base. (This is an
actual umpire’s call, not an appeal play used in ASA). In the event of an
errant throw to first base, the runner & fielder may switch sides of the
base.
3. If there is a question on whether the correct portion of the base
was used, the team manager may call “Time” and respectfully request that the
field umpire get help from the home plate umpire.
4. After the initial play at first base, ALL play will be from the
white portion of the base. The runner must be in contact with the white
portion or they will be considered off the base.
5. The base runner has the right to the baseline except when the
fielder is attempting to field a ball. In the event of a double play, the
runner may continue in a straight line to the base at his own risk. If he
intentionally interferes with the fielder, the runner closest to home plate
at the beginning of the play will be called “OUT”.
6. Intentional interference includes, but not limited to, crashing
into the fielder, waving of arms to distract the fielder or hitting the
thrown ball.
7. If the runner intentionally crashes into the fielder, the player
will be immediately ejected from the game.
8. A courtesy runner may be used 1 time per inning. This player can
run for any other player that is already in the game. The courtesy runner
must be someone not already in the game. This will not be considered a
substitution.
Official Ball
1. All classes will use a 44 cor. 375 compression ball.
Run Rule
1. All The run rule will be 20 after 4 complete innings and 10 after 5
complete innings.
Official Game
1. A game will be considered official after 3 ½ innings if the home
team is leading. If the visiting team leads, the game must complete 4
innings to be official.

NOTE-
The Amateur Softball Association rule book will be used, if other rules
are implemented. The presidents of leagues or tournaments directors must
notify each team in hard copy. When a team participates in championship
play, the roster is frozen. If this team loses players, the team manager has
the right to contact his commissioner .The commissioner in turn has the
authority to open the roster and place new players on that team. All rosters
are frozen two weeks prior to a World Series Tournament. Maximum players to be
replaced are four. All teams must have insurance. Tournament director has
the authority to set the amount of home runs per game. However he must
advertise, in hard copy, this rule prior to all teams entering the
tournament.
This Hardcopy Document will serve notice as the Official Rules of the
2008 NASF Tournaments in accordance with NASF guidelines.
Weekly Results will be kept on this page as well as the
